This tool is built to help you evaluate all 118 candidates for the A League draft based on available coach evaluation data across three seasons. It consolidates skill ratings, coach comments, attendance records, and computed scoring into one manageable view so you can compare players side by side, identify your top targets, and track every pick during the live draft.
Data Architecture
Each player has evaluation data from up to three seasons: Spring, Summer, and Summer Shootout. Not every player has data for every season. The columns in the roster table include:
- Player Name — Full name with parent and school info in the expandable detail row
- PDI — Player Development Index, the composite score (0-100) combining all skill ratings across seasons
- Trend — Whether the player is improving (▲), declining (▼), or stable (▬) across seasons
- Spring Total, Summer Total, Shootout Total — Raw total skill scores for each season
- Comment Score — A 1-10 rating generated from analyzing the language in coach comments (keywords like "strong arm," "great effort," "needs work" are scored)
- Coachable — Flagged with an X when coach comments contain positive attitude or work ethic keywords
- Spring Skills, Summer Skills, Shootout Skills — Individual skill ratings (Hitting, Throwing, Grounders, Running, Pop Ups) shown as color-coded mini badges
- Spring Comments, Summer Comments, Shootout Comments — The actual coach comments from each evaluation
- Drafted, On Team, Top Pick — Your draft management checkboxes (saved automatically, synced across all your devices)
- My Notes — Your personal notes on any player (also saved and synced)
Click any player row to expand it and see their full detail card with all scores, comments, attendance, and play level info.
App Functionality
- Column Reordering — Each column header has small left (←) and right (→) arrow buttons below the label. Click them to move that column left or right in the table. Your column order is saved automatically.
- Sorting — Click any column header to sort the table by that column. Click again to reverse the sort direction. The sort arrow (▲/▼) shows which column is currently sorted and in which direction.
- Filters — Use the filter bar above the table to search by name, filter by school, spring team, summer team, shootout team, or play level. You can also toggle checkboxes to show only players with specific season data, hide already-drafted players, or show only your top picks.
- Draft Tracking — Check the "Drafted" box as players get picked during the draft. Check "On Team" for players on your team. Mark "Top Pick" (★) on players you're targeting. All of this is saved to the database and syncs across your phone, iPad, and laptop.
- My Notes — Type directly into the notes field for any player. Press Enter or click the checkmark to save. Notes sync across all devices.
Scoring Methodology
Each season's evaluation includes five skill ratings (1-10 scale): Hitting, Throwing, Grounders, Running, and Pop Ups. These are combined into season totals:
- Spring Total — Sum of all five Spring skill ratings
- Summer Total — Sum of all five Summer skill ratings
- Shootout Total — Sum of all five Shootout skill ratings
The PDI (Player Development Index) is a weighted composite score from 0-100 that accounts for both skill importance and season recency:
Skill weights (based on developmental importance at age 8):
Season weights: Shootout 50%, Summer 30%, Spring 20%. More recent evaluations count more because they better reflect where the player is right now.
Attendance bonus: Excellent attendance adds +3 points, Good adds +1.
